  • WINK News is searching for a new chief meteorologist after long-time forecaster Matt Devitt said he was fired Jan. 10. The station may promote an internal candidate like recent hire Josh Green — who filled Devitt’s spot Monday — or launch a national search.  The News-Press
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Lee County will host its annual Evening at the Ballpark on March 18 at JetBlue Park (11500 Fenway South Drive) from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The event will feature Red Sox players, baseball games, dinner, autograph sessions, and fundraising to support youth programs.  Cape Coral Breeze
  • Guiding Grace Family Support Network announced a grand reopening on Feb. 12 in Cape Coral as it expands services through its new affiliation with Thrive SWFL to offer housing navigation, case management and parenting classes.   • Bishop Verot Catholic High School in Fort Myers went into lockdown Tuesday morning after receiving a noncredible threat + deputies confirmed that all students and staff remained safe as law enforcement secured the site.  ABC7

  • Kristianna Mrjenovich, known as the Second Chance Queen, was crowned International Ms. North America 2026 on Jan. 4 in Orlando — her win recognizes her work empowering women, survivors, and young girls as she expands Confidence Crown Workshops nationwide.  Florida Weekly

  • Congressional candidate Jim Schwartzel said Monday evening that he is not involved in firing longtime meteorologist Matt Devitt at WINK, clarifying he does not own or control the station & addressing viewer outrage and a petition for Devitt’s return.  The News-Press
  • A Lee County School District report shows 3,000 drivers were cited for not stopping for buses at hotspots on Hanson Street, State Road 82, Colonial Boulevard in Fort Myers, and Pondella Road in North Fort Myers — each $225 fine will fund safety programs and bus camera systems.  WINK News
  • South Cape Community Redevelopment Agency board meets today at 9 a.m. at 1015 Cultural Park Blvd to consider $50,000 grant requests from Taco Works Downtown, LLC and Tiki Tails Dog Resort, LLC (with updates on CRA projects).  Cape Coral Breeze

  • Today, doctors warn that a mutated strain of influenza A called subclade K is fueling an intense flu season in the U.S. with Fort Myers residents advised to get vaccinated, test early if symptoms appear, and start antiviral treatment within 48 hours to lessen severe illness.  ABC7

  • The Fort Myers Housing Authority is closing Royal Palm Towers and relocating residents with vouchers and moving help as it replaces the building with a new 80-unit complex (Strayhorn Place) near Lee Memorial Hospital. The project will be completed in spring, 2027.  WINK News
