  • Lee County Parks & Recreation invites community members to take a survey on renovating the train playground at Lakes Park (7330 Gladiolus Drive) to gather input for family-friendly improvements. The online survey closes on Sunday, Feb. 1.  WINK News
  • Residents in Fort Myers Beach opposed Fly Heli’s use of a floating barge for training flights near Bowditch Point Park on January 14, citing noise and wildlife concerns; however, the advisory board noted officials lack legal power to enforce relocation since the FAA (federal aviation authority) regulates flights.  ABC7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Some Like It Hot runs through Jan.18 at Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Center, mixing classic film with modern twists and a big-band score. A 45-minute delay due to a medical emergency (prompting nearly half the audience to leave) did not stop applause for its Tony Award-winning choreography and performances.  ABC7
  • IMAG History & Science Center hosted a live event yesterday for National Dress Up Your Pet Day in Fort Myers, featuring creative pet costumes and a red-footed tortoise race that offered both fun and educational moments.  ABC7
  • Barry Manilow rescheduled his Hertz Arena concerts in Estero after doctors found a cancerous spot on his lung and he underwent surgery. The Copacabana singer will perform his final Estero shows on March 16 & 17 as he continues to recover.  ABC7
  • Gulfshore Opera kicks off its season with 'As You Like It' at St. Leo Auditorium on Jan. 20. The company will hold its capstone event, 'In the Voice of Shakespeare,' at Daniels Pavilion on Jan. 23 featuring opera & Broadway classics.  WGCU
  • Elevate Studios partners with Lee County Parks and Recreation to stage an immersive outdoor production of 'Lord of the Flies' at Caloosahatchee Regional Park in Alva; eight 70-minute shows will run on Jan.-24 and Jan.-25 with reserved tickets at $15 for students and $25 for general admission.  WGCU

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lee County Schools celebrated a historic milestone as the Class of 2025 earned a record 89.8% graduation rate across the district, with 15 traditional schools and Lee Virtual School reaching 95.3% and Fort Myers High and North Fort Myers High achieving 99% amid the lowest-ever 1.5% dropout rate.  WINK News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fort Myers residents can lower heating bills by checking for air leaks and sealing drafts with low-cost supplies from local hardware stores. Experts say using tools like window insulation kits and door sweeps helps keep warm air inside on chilly days.  WINK News

  • Lee County Government and its partners are launching a cold-weather outreach plan today through Jan. 19 to provide shelter beds, warming buses, mobile warming stations, and outreach teams at sites in Fort Myers, Lehigh Acres, Cape Coral, and Sanibel. HEALTH NEWS

  • Recalled shredded and grated pecorino Romano cheese sold in Florida, including at Sam's Club between Nov. 3 and Nov. 20, has been upgraded to a Class I recall due to a listeria risk. Consumers who purchased it are urged not to eat it + to return it for a refund.  The News-Press
  • Lee Health — a trusted care provider — invites residents aged 18 and older to take a 10-minute Community Health Needs Assessment Survey to help shape local health care. The survey is available now through March 3 and will guide future care improvements in our community.  Florida Weekly
