  • On Saturday, Jan. 17, FGCU hosted its 11th annual Laces of Love shoe drive at Alico Arena as FGCU alum Chris Sale and his family led efforts to collect shoes for kids in need across Collier County; donations continue to be accepted.  ABC7
  • Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary will host a free event on Jan. 25 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. where visitors explore the swamp and honor Ed Carlson, a long-time Audubon warden who spent nearly 40 years protecting its wildlife.  WGCU
  • Haven on Earth Animal League in Fort Myers will host its first Cat Walk on Feb. 7 at Pelican Preserve Town Center. Participants can choose a one-, two- or three-mile route and join raffles, games and auctions to support the TNR program that helps over 800 cats.  WINK News
  • Downtown Fort Myers Farmers Market returns today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Monroe to Broadway and Main Street, bringing fresh produce, local artisans, and small businesses together to boost community activity.  WINK News
  • Harry Chapin Food Bank broke ground on a new Hunger Action Center in Fort Myers to expand its food distribution capacity, and a center in Naples is planned to serve Collier County residents; the nonprofit distributed 38.6 million pounds of food in 2025 amid community challenges.  The News-Press

  • LARC announced plans to expand its campus in 2026 with an 8,000 sqft program building and an additional residential group home that will serve as the region’s first IDD-specific hurricane shelter.
