- ➤ Florida lawmakers introduced House Bill 127 to require elementary students to learn cursive writing by testing them at the end of fifth grade & the House Education & Employment Committee passed the bill Thursday in Fort Myers, with a planned effective date in July if approved by the full House. - ➤ Lee County's health department issued a blue-green algae alert on Friday for the Caloosahatchee River-Sebastian Canal after detecting toxins that might harm humans and pets — residents, especially those at risk, are advised to avoid contact with the water and wash quickly if exposed. ABC7
