  • Alva will host its annual Strawberry Festival on Saturday, March 14 with a plant sale and strawberry shortcake social running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Methodist Church plus a free quilt show from 9 to 2 at the Library Museum which supports local community gardens.  The News-Press
  • Nearly 50,000 people took over Fort Myers Beach Saturday for the 68th annual Shrimp Festival with a 5K run, parade, and more activities; the festival will continue today with an arts and crafts fair, a shrimp boil, and other events.  ABC7

  • Anglers in Fort Myers can join the 29th LCEC Fishing Tournament on Saturday, April 18 — team meeting is Friday, April 17.   • Fort Myers senior Kael Seneca clinched the Class 2A wrestling championship at 126 pounds by defeating his opponent 13-0 in Kissimmee on Mar. 7.  The News-Press
  • St. John Neumann sophomore Benito Barnhart won the Class 1A state wrestling title at 120 pounds in Kissimmee yesterday — he defeated his opponent with a 12-5 major decision.  The News-Press
  • FGCU men’s basketball ended their season Saturday with a 73-63 loss to Central Arkansas at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville. The loss extends the team’s drought (ninth consecutive season without an NCAA Tournament berth).  The News-Press
