- ➤ Fort Myers’ Andrew D. Gwynne Institute opened on Oct. 20th, 1911 as the city’s first proper school—costing $45,000, which is more than $1 million in today’s value—and later hosted classes for a community college before it became a School Board annex. - ➤ FGCU women's basketball will open the NCAA Tournament on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.—the 14th-seeded Eagles, fresh off a win over Central Arkansas, will travel to Norman to face the third-seeded Sooners on their home floor.
