- ➤ A double shooting on Saturday at Cypress West Apartments in Fort Myers left two victims with multiple gunshot wounds, and deputies arrested Roger De Le Cruz on Monday on attempted murder charges more than 700 miles away near Gulfport. The News-Press
- ➤ Fort Myers resident Joe Salvaggio, 84, is suing contractor Edward Beebe from ENBS Painting & More—alleging he paid $40,000 for Hurricane Ian home repairs that were never completed and that the case is headed to civil court while the sheriff’s office continues its investigation. - ➤ U.S. Customs and Border Protection has warned travelers today that raw egg smuggling from Mexico has surged 158% since fiscal year 2024—violators may face fines up to $10,000 if they breach U.S. agricultural restrictions. NBC2
- ➤ Lee County authorities arrested 52 people during Operation Out of Luck—an undercover drug investigation—and executed over 30 search warrants that seized 40 pounds of cocaine, 42 pounds of methamphetamine, over six pounds of fentanyl, six firearms, two vehicles and more than $136,000 in cash. - ➤ Luis Abel Toruno, a 44-year-old man, was sentenced to 60 years in prison on two counts of conspiracy to traffic fentanyl in Lee County—he had already been serving a 25-year sentence from a prior drug trafficking conviction in Hendry County last year. WINK News

- ➤ At the Marine Environmental Resource Task Force meeting in March, Tunaskin’s event director Ben Duval and his team earned the monthly MERTF Environmental Award for sponsoring their 10th Annual Beach Keepers Clean Up on February 16 that saw over 400 volunteers remove more than three tons of garbage from Fort Myers Beach and nearby areas. - ➤ Florida faces a high frequency of tornadoes, with AccuWeather predicting an above-average number for spring with drier weather expected—conditions that may raise local concerns.
