  • STARability Foundation began its new bowling league at 810 Entertainment at Miromar Outlets in Estero on March 10—about 25 participants joined the league. The program builds on a 40-year tradition that helps adults with disabilities engage in social sports and community activities.  Cape Coral Breeze
  • On March 8, 120 people joined a 5K walk at Florida Gulf Coast University to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project, which helps wounded veterans and their families by offering mental health, career counseling and long term rehabilitation services. Best Home Services hosted the event and directed the proceeds toward these support programs.  The News-Press

CRIME NEWS

  • A man barricaded himself inside a south Fort Myers home in The Villas early Friday and flashed a gun—prompting SWAT deputies to use tear gas before taking him into custody with no injuries reported.  NBC2
  • Estero man Michael Younce was arrested at a local gas station when deputies detected a strong smell of alcohol and an open bottle in his car—he also had a loaded firearm in his waistband and violated his probation just two months after his prison release following three prior DUI arrests.  NBC2

  • Today, SWFL offers several events where car enthusiasts, pet lovers, and music fans can join activities including the 11th Annual Naples Motorfest at Paradise Coast Sport Complex from 10 AM to 3 PM, a pet-friendly walk and 5K run at Cape Coral Animal Shelter, the Fort Myers Music Festival downtown running March 21 to 23, and Cape Coral Sounds of Jazz & Blues at Coral Oaks Golf Course starting at 4:30 PM—featuring live music and local vendors.  Fox 4

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Two critically endangered right whales were seen near Cape Coral, drawing attention from marine experts. They advise boaters to slow down—helping protect a species with fewer than 400 individuals from vessel strikes and gear entanglement.  WINK News
  • The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will host three virtual meetings in April to collect public feedback on a potential black bear hunt as rising bear numbers lead to more human encounters—options based on public comments and stakeholder meetings will be reviewed by commissioners in May.  The News-Press

  • The city of Fort Myers will remove dozens of half-sunken boats in North Fort Myers after ending its lease with Old Bridge Marina for not clearing the derelict vessels as required—residents have noted safety issues and litter on the docks—and a cleanup timeline is still being planned.  NBC2

  • 22-year-old ICU nurse Zoe Green from Cape Coral was invited by rancher Colton Hendricks to spend five weeks on his Arkansas farm after appearing on Farmer Wants a Wife—her farm work as a child gives her an edge.
