- ➤ Lee County Parks and Recreation is planning several Easter egg hunts for children ahead of Easter on April 20. The events include a $5 fee hunt in Fort Myers on April 5 at Wa-Ke Hatchee Recreation Center starting at 9:30 a.m., a free hunt for middle schoolers in Pine Island on April 12, and hunts in Lehigh Acres, Estero and Boca Grande on April 19 with extra activities and preregistration required. - ➤ The only Perkins Restaurant & Bakery in south Lee County is closing from its location in the Shoppes of Grande Oak near McDonald’s at the northeast corner of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway and Corkscrew Road in Estero. Employees said it will begin shutting down late afternoon on March 31 and close for good on April 13—leaving locals to wonder what will take its place. WINK News

- ➤ Lee County deputies arrested a 12-year-old student from Veteran Park Academy for making threats and planning to plant bombs at the school after students reported his scary drawings & a search of his school-issued Chromebook found bomb-making videos and searches on terrorists. ABC7
- ➤ Cape Coral police announced new charges against two teenagers accused of joining earlier suspects in stealing vehicles and mishandling firearms—actions that led to a shooting on Feb. 13 at a 7-Eleven on Skyline Boulevard where one teen accidentally shot another who was taken to a local hospital. - ➤ Starting April 14, the Social Security Administration will change how people verify their identity for benefits by ending phone verification for most retirement and survivor claims and requiring appointments online or in person. The new plan—made to stop fraud—will let those needing disability, Medicare, or Supplemental Security Income verify by phone while local offices like the Fort Myers office, open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., may see longer wait times.
