CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Twenty-six-year-old Hector Edgardo Perdomo was sentenced to 40 years in prison (including a 25-year minimum) for second-degree murder after fatally shooting a man outside a Lee County Mexican restaurant in 2022 and also received additional sentences for attempted murder and aggravated assault as the case was investigated by the Fort Myers Police and he was apprehended in Slidell by U.S. Marshals. - ➤ A large group of Harry Potter fans gathered at Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium for Potter In the Park where they enjoyed spell demonstrations, a potion lab and Butter Beer — the event brought together fans from toddlers to boomers. - ➤ Lee County commissioners approved five affordable housing projects Tuesday to build more than 100 apartments in Cape Coral and new complexes in Fort Myers—officials said the county will develop 20 projects over the next two to three years to ease rising housing costs after challenges from COVID and Hurricane Ian. - ➤ For the 10th consecutive year, the Red Sox Foundation awarded 16 local high school seniors a $5,000 scholarship each—one award came from Lee County charter and ALS schools—as part of a program for students with strong academics and community service records. - ➤ The Lee Board of County Commissioners approved the purchase of a nearly 130-acre parcel in East Fort Myers for the Conservation 20/20 program for about $10.5 million to protect natural habitats like mesic hammocks and pine flatwoods. They also bought a 2.5-acre parcel for $4,250 — and received a 5-acre donation to further preserve land for flood protection and endangered species. WINK News

- ➤ The Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District seeks public input through a survey on a study to merge with the Iona-McGregor Fire District.
