ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A stalled boundary across the Gulf Coast is spurring scattered storms today, with heavy rain + gusty winds predicted this afternoon as areas east of I-75 face a weather impact day. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lee County Department of Transportation has begun a $13.7 million repair project on Estero Boulevard from Estrellita Drive to Crescent Street on Fort Myers Beach (fixing asphalt, sidewalks, drainage, signals, and more), with work starting at the south end to ease seasonal traffic and expected to finish in Fall 2027.  ABC7
  • Lee County closed the parking lot next to Times Square on Monday to start construction of new elevated bathrooms and park upgrades following Hurricane Ian damage (including ADA-accessible boardwalks, picnic shelters, landscaping, lighting, and signage). The project is expected to finish in early summer 2027 while portable restrooms and a pedestrian walkway remain available.  Beach Talk Radio
  • Fort Myers officials halted demolition at City of Palms Park (in Midtown) after staff reportedly found potential historic items in dumpsters.
