COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Fort Myers Beach Town Council unanimously approved a new food truck park after a six-hour public hearing where neighbors raised concerns over noise, traffic and property values. The park will include parking, public restrooms and bike racks and now features design compromises with sound buffers and landscaping to reduce noise.  WINK News
  • Lee County's 8th annual food rescue campaign begins today as seasonal residents leave and are urged to donate unopened pantry items and canned goods at local drop-off sites until April 21. Officials say the program has already rescued over 38,700 pounds of food to help support local residents in need.  ABC7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • City leaders in Fort Myers will decide on Monday whether to hold a public meeting about a new Costco store set to replace the outdated one on Cypress Lake Parkway and US-41. Mayor Anderson said the new site will offer more space and better access—despite concerns about noise and traffic near apartments and businesses—with a public hearing planned for April 21 if the meeting is approved.  NBC2

  • Officials reported that a person was last seen riding a jet ski at Lazy Springs Recreation Park (on the Lee County, Hendry County line near Lehigh Acres) and that agencies including the Lee County Sheriff's Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission deployed underwater drones and search teams Sunday evening.  ABC7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall in Fort Myers revealed its 2025-2026 Fifth Third Bank Broadway Series with General Manager Scott Saxon, showcasing six national touring Broadway shows. The season marks the hall's 40th anniversary and offers five local premieres+with Moulin Rouge! The Musical running today, and season tickets are on sale+so Fort Myers fans can get first choice for upcoming shows.  ABC7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lee County School District is rebuilding Cypress Lake Middle School as promised in its 2018 sales tax campaign— the old building is being demolished while classes continue in portables. The new school will cost $100,599,777, open in October 2026, and be fully completed by February 2027.  ABC7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leaders in Fort Myers are applying for a grant of more than $300K from FWC to fund Legacy Island Park on the Caloosahatchee River, with plans for a five-slip dock for boaters, walking trails, an observation pier, and paddlecraft beaches. If approved, the park will feature beaches protected by a living shoreline — a natural mix to support local wildlife and remove invasive plants, and it will open in July.  ABC7
