- ➤ On Sunday, Apr. 12, from 4 to 6 p.m., Edison Park celebrates 100 years with a parade starting at Edison Park School parking lot and ending at Edison Congregational Church by the Rachel at the Well statue. The event includes music, vehicles plus a ribbon cutting with Mayor Kevin Anderson. ABC7

- ➤ Several new restaurants are coming soon to Fort Myers and Cape Coral. Sweet Tomatoes in south Fort Myers is hiring amid renovations and Chicken Salad Chick in Cape Coral will open Tuesday, April 21 at 10 a.m. (Other spots include Nothing Bundt Cakes, Capriotti’s, and more.) The News-Press
- ➤ Florida Power & Light warned customers about scammers using AI voices to impersonate company representatives and press for immediate payments. FPL advised people to hang up and verify any requests using the number on their bill. ABC7

- ➤ Gopher Tortoise Day was observed yesterday when the Gopher Tortoise Council in North Port celebrated this protected species; Taylor Lashlee from CROW on Sanibel explained how their extensive burrows shelter over 350 species + urban sprawl threatens their habitat. WGCU
- ➤ At the Ritz-Carlton Naples on April 10, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida raised over $2 million for environmental programs during its Magic Under the Mangroves gala, including a $100,000 bid for a stay at Alligator Ron Bergeron’s Everglades property (Burmese python trips also brought in nearly $100,000). - ➤ Colorado State University meteorologists predict a somewhat below-normal hurricane season (June 1–November 30) with lower chances for major hurricanes making landfall along Florida’s coasts, as El Niño is expected to reduce storm strength. The News-Press
- ➤ Bonita Estero Rail Trail (BERT) will transform an unused railway into an 11.4-mile paved path for cyclists and pedestrians, linking Collier and Lee counties and adding to a 420-mile trail from Tampa to Naples. Bonita Springs residents will vote on a bond referendum in August to fund their portion of the project. The News-Press
