ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Saturday night, a motorcycle crashed near The Palms of Fort Myers on the 2700 block of Winkler Avenue—officials have not yet confirmed any injuries.  ABC7
  • A motorcycle and a car crashed in Cape Coral on Saturday night at Del Prado Boulevard North and Hancock Bridge Pkwy—police have not confirmed if anyone was injured.  ABC7

  • Phantom Fireworks halted production after a 145% tariff on Chinese goods made costs too high—its stores in Southwest Florida have been affected. The company’s president said they are working with Northeast Ohio lawmakers to secure an exemption so it can resume operations before the Fourth of July season.  WGCU

CRIME NEWS

  • Charlotte County police arrested two individuals connected to the Walmart shooting on April 12 and are now searching for suspect Anthony Mojica, who is on the run.  ABC7
  • Deputies on Bermer Street in Lehigh Acres began investigating a death that occurred overnight on Sunday—officials confirmed one fatality—stating the incident is isolated and poses no threat to the public.  ABC7
  • Detectives from the Lee County Sheriff's Office launched a death investigation on Bermer Street in Lehigh Acres after one person was found deceased—authorities say the domestic incident poses no threat to the community.  WINK News
  • Lee County Sheriff's Office arrested two teenage suspects—Kevin Espinal Borjas, age 18 and Selvin Arita Carranza, age 16—after they robbed a man walking home on the 4500 block of Palm Beach Boulevard on April 4; one suspect appeared to have a firearm during the robbery and deputies later recovered the victim's phone and a black backpack with ski masks and a BB gun from their residence.  ABC7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Archived records show that Ogden "Dinny" Phipps—a Carnegie steel heir, tennis champion and owner of champion racehorses—bought the 15,900-acre Matlacha Plantation near Fort Myers in the mid-1950s for a private hunting preserve and later signed a 10-year, $10 million sales agreement with the Rosen brothers that influenced the area's growth.  The News-Press
