ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Lee County's marine patrol rescued two boaters last week in Matlacha Pass after their fishing boat began sinking—80% of the vessel was underwater—and the men were brought to shore for a quick medical exam.  The News-Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Lee County deputies are searching for 55-year-old Felix Valdez — last seen on Tuesday, April 15 leaving his Fort Myers home on foot along Figuera Avenue — and he is described as 6 feet tall, weighing 180 pounds with gray hair and hazel eyes while wearing a gray t-shirt and dark blue joggers with no shoes.  ABC7
  • A man was found dead in the middle of a road in Pine Manor on Monday around 10 p.m. near Second Avenue and Palm Drive, prompting the Lee County Sheriff's Office to launch an investigation while neighbors noted a strong police presence.  WINK News

  • Fort Myers and nearby communities will host a busy Easter weekend as the 81st Dunbar Easter Parade will kick off on Sunday, April 20 at Dunbar Jupiter Hammond Library, the Easter Bunny will greet visitors at Edison Mall until April 19, and a large egg hunt will begin at Hammond Stadium on Saturday, April 19—other family events are planned in Cape Coral, Estero and Sanibel.  The News-Press
  • The Broadway tour of Les Misérables is playing today through April 20 at Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall in Fort Myers (7:30, 8:00, and 1:00 p.m.) with tickets starting at ($50), bringing a world-famous musical story of sacrifice and hope to a local audience.  Florida Weekly

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fort Myers Beach crews began a renourishment project on Tuesday morning at Bowditch Point Park to move sand and help sea turtles nest. Officials said the work is important for wildlife and tourism—an update is expected later Tuesday.  WINK News

  • Lee County officials enacted a burn ban in unincorporated areas and municipalities—excluding grills—after a drought index reached 612; they will monitor conditions to decide when to lift the ban.  WGCU
  • Lee County Clerk Kevin Karnes will host a free online small claims class today from 2 to 3 p.m. on Zoom—attendees will learn about filing costs, required forms, and electronic filing while a Legal Aid Society representative answers questions; registration is required to receive the Zoom link.  Cape Coral Breeze
