CRIME NEWS

  • The Lee County Sheriff's Office is searching for a missing 55-year-old man, Felix Valdez, who was last seen leaving a Fort Myers residence on foot Tuesday near Figuera Avenue and is described as 6 feet tall, weighing 180 pounds with gray hair and hazel eyes while wearing a gray t-shirt, dark blue joggers, and no shoes; anyone with information is urged to call 239-477-100 or 1-800-780-TIPS.  ABC7
  • A juvenile was arrested for aggravated animal cruelty on April 13 in Fort Myers after officers found a dead kitten when they responded to an anonymous tip about kittens being thrown off the Royal Palm Gardens clubhouse roof, and a follow-up investigation on April 16 recovered two more kittens that were taken to the Gulf Coast Humane Society.  ABC7
  • A Cape Coral woman in her sixties was arrested for pepper spraying dogs at a park after a witness said she sprayed a dog when it came near her pet; officers took her into custody and she now faces an animal cruelty charge and a park trespass warning (she is 67) and (one dog had its eyes flushed during the incident).  Fox 4
  • Ryan Cole appeared in court yesterday in Port Charlotte for a final pretrial hearing on charges tied to the fatal stabbing of 15-year-old Khyler Edman—who died protecting his 5-year-old sister in 2019—and prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty with jury selection to begin Monday.  ABC7

  • Theatre Conspiracy will end its run in Southwest Florida this season with a farewell tour of 11 blockbuster shows announced by founder Bill Taylor. The tour will be held at the Off Broadway Palm — Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium — and The Laboratory Theater.  WGCU

  • Gov. DeSantis campaigned for higher state trooper pay at the FDOT office in Fort Myers on Wednesday — citing low starting salaries and House budget cuts as issues. Critics reported that average service length dropped from 9.8 to 6.8 years — a statistic that underscores the call for improved incentives.  WINK News
  • Starting May 7, passengers must use a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or another approved photo ID to board domestic flights, and many can use a passport or passport card instead—those without acceptable identification may face extra screening at TSA checkpoints.  The News-Press
