- ➤ Neal Communities — the largest home builder in Southwest Florida — is preparing for tariffs that may cause construction delays and higher material prices in both residential and commercial projects. The company plans to use new domestic suppliers to ease price hikes that could add up to $10,000 on a typical home while the market faces more than $3 billion in increased import material costs. - ➤ At Hancock Creek Elementary, teacher Danielle Hopkins received the Golden Apple Teacher Recognition Award earlier this month — one of six educators chosen after a thorough selection process for her 13 years of art teaching to kindergarten through fifth grade. - ➤ Lee County Clerk and Comptroller Kevin Karnes will host Passport Saturday on May 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Official Records department at 2115 Second St. in downtown Fort Myers—applicants must bring required documents and two forms of payment for the Department of State and Clerk fees, and passport photos will be available for an extra charge. - ➤ Fort Myers Beach Town Manager Andy Hyatt will remain until the end of May to ensure a smooth transition—he will earn an extra $1,000 in May on top of his regular monthly pay from his $197,000 salary. - ➤ Town rangers, off-duty firefighters and sheriff’s deputies saved an Indiana man’s life after he went into cardiac arrest near Margaritaville Beach Resort by starting CPR and using an automated defibrillator three times.
