COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, April 26, the Lee County Pioneer Picnic will be held at the Lee County Civic Center, Tinsley Pavilion off Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers with registration starting at 10 a.m., lunch served at noon and presentations plus a raffle at 1 p.m.; tickets cost $10 (including a plate of barbecue, baked beans, coleslaw, rolls, cookies and iced tea or lemonade). Approximately 1,200 invitations have been mailed and club members get free admission at Edison and Ford Winter Estates and The IMAG History & Science Center (by showing their Pioneer membership card on Fri 4/25, Sat 4/26 and Sun 4/27).  The News-Press

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On April 19, a jet ski operator on the Caloosahatchee River was injured when he clipped a boat towing a vessel - he was taken to a hospital and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is leading the investigation.  ABC7
  • On Saturday night at 9:26 p.m., a 66-year-old Cape Coral man attempting a left turn on U.S. 27 at Flagpole Road in Hendry County hit a motorcycle—killing a 26-year-old motorcyclist from Davie and a 4-year-old passenger from Clewiston—and the crash left a 58-year-old truck passenger seriously injured while the driver suffered minor injuries.  Cape Coral Breeze
  • A house caught fire along Piccadilly Court in South Fort Myers on April 20 around 3 p.m. when the owners were at lunch after church, and firefighters fought flames in the attic that caused severe structural damage—leaving the displaced family without a home to move into.  ABC7
  • Crews in North Fort Myers responded to a fire fueled by an illegal burn on April 19 just before 6 p.m. along Bogart Drive — dry conditions helped the flames spread quickly, a trailer was damaged, and no homes were harmed or anyone hurt.  ABC7
  • Officials responded on April 19 to a boating incident in Estero when a person fell off a boat and was recovered by a good Samaritan before being taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead—FWC leads the ongoing investigation.  NBC2

CRIME NEWS

  • A man identified as Anthony Gilberto Rodriguez led troopers on an ATV chase along Pine Island Road and US-41 on Sunday before police arrested him and took him to Lee County Jail where he faces charges for reckless driving, fleeing, and failure to register a motor vehicle.  WINK News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Florida High School Athletic Association announced that baseball regionals will begin today using a best-of-three series format—this change tests overall performance rather than a single game outcome. Sixteen Southwest Florida teams qualified and will compete with seeding, hosting rules, and district champion advantages.  ABC7
