- ➤ Lee County Animal Services and North Fort Myers Fire District partnered to equip all three fire stations with microchip scanners to reunite lost pets with their owners. The program (Check the Chip) will officially start on May 1 and trains firefighters to quickly scan pets and contact owners. ABC7

- ➤ Officials said a jet skier was seriously injured on Saturday after he struck a tow rope near Midpoint Bridge—rescue teams transported him to a hospital. The News-Press

- ➤ A new Hilton hotel will be built on Jackson and First streets to boost downtown economic growth. City officials will review an exception for the 11-story plan (over the 9-story limit) while the Fort Myers Community Redevelopment Agency supports the project with a tax rebate (up to $14 million).
