EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lee County School District faces a nearly $50 million deficit that could lead to staffing cuts and reduce funds at Edison Park Elementary in Fort Myers (with estimates of up to $700,000 in cuts), leaving parents and students worried about losing key programs like music class.  WINK News
  • The Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife is now accepting registrations for the 2026 Conservation Summer Camp at CROW on Sanibel-Captiva Road. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jaxi Builders’ plan for a 32-story, two-tower condo on Fort Myers’ eastern edge is uncertain after CRA commissioners tied their vote + rejecting a request to amend a 2015 tax incentive for $15.1 million; developers said they will explore new options amid rising costs.  WGCU
  • Wilson Pigott Bridge reopened Thursday afternoon after a 10-day closure during which crews installed heavy steel panels and completed welding to improve the aging deck; the upgrade is a temporary fix ahead of a full replacement planned for 2028.  NBC2
  • Crews from Lee County DOT will resurface Burnt Store Road starting Monday, Apr. 27 with one lane closed at a time while milling and paving on Pine Island Road are scheduled overnight May 13-14 (flagging personnel assisting traffic). Both projects aim to improve drainage and secure key evacuation routes.  WGCU
