- ➤ Lee County’s mobile library truck brings books and reading materials directly to people in Bonita Springs and Fort Myers at community events, underserved neighborhoods, and seasonal worker camps. The truck will visit the Estero Recreation Center on May 31 — and the East County Regional Library in Lehigh Acres on June 2 to offer books in English, Spanish, and German, as well as audiobooks and graphic novels. - ➤ OSHA identified serious safety rule violations at A-Expert Tire and Service Inc. in Fort Myers and a Firestone shop in Cape Coral after fatal tire explosions in August and June led to the deaths of a 20-year-old employee and a manager - the agency proposed fines of $12,000 and $32,000 while both businesses are contesting the penalties. - ➤ On April 22, around 8 p.m., in a RaceTrac parking lot on Furling Road in Bonita Springs, Brandon Mclaughlin, 36, drove in circles while drunk and pointed a BB gun at someone before leaving; deputies arrested him for two counts of aggravated assault, driving under the influence, and refusal to complete a DUI test — officials reported no injuries occurred. - ➤ Shorebirds have begun laying eggs on Southwest Florida beaches with Wilson's and Snowy Plovers, Least Terns, and soon Black Skimmers nesting in the sand. Audubon and state wildlife officials advise beach-goers to keep dogs leashed and stay clear of nests—steps that help protect the eggs during the 30-day guarding period. WGCU

- ➤ Lee County Clerk and Comptroller Kevin Karnes urged all property owners to register for the free Property Fraud Alert after a Fort Myers man was arrested last month for attempting to file a fake deed. The service, which notifies registrants within 24 hours of any deed filing, was launched in 2019 and currently has more than 60,000 registrations — residents are urged to sign up if they have not already. - ➤ A Cape Coral police officer received the Life Saving Award after he performed CPR on a motorcyclist involved in a crash on Pine Island Rd while off duty — Chief Sizemore presented the award with his family nearby. ABC7
- ➤ Lee County Clerk—Comptroller Kevin Karnes is urging property owners to register for the free Fraud Alert service to protect against property scams after recent arrests for forged deeds. The online service quickly signs you up and alerts you within 24 hours if suspicious activity happens. NBC2
