- ➤ A fire broke out late Tuesday in one of the condos at Village Creek Community on Winkler Avenue and Metro Parkway — Fort Myers Fire Department and Police Department responded quickly to extinguish the flames and begin an investigation. WINK News
- ➤ A Fort Myers firefighter was hurt by broken glass while rescuing someone from an apartment fire at Village Creek Apartments on Winkler Avenue late April 30—sprinklers stopped the fire from spreading—and the saved person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation after saying they fell asleep while smoking. - ➤ Family Initiative held its fifth annual Autism Acceptance Awards Gala on Saturday and raised $633,500 for the autism community—over 400 guests attended the event, which featured dinner, drinks and auctions to fund new services for children and families. - ➤ Today on Fort Myers Beach, threatened loggerhead sea turtles begin nesting under strict rules that require unshielded lights to be off from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.—a measure to protect nests and hatchlings. - ➤ Florida lawmakers are deadlocked over a $4.4 billion budget gap as the House and Senate clash over tax cuts, bill provisions and rural development funding, pushing the legislative session into overtime.
