CULTURE NEWS

  • South Cape is hosting the second annual Cinco de Drinko pub crawl today from 7 to 11 p.m., where guests can sample Mexican-themed drinks and appetizers at 11 downtown spots—limo buses will shuttle attendees between stops while a ticket covers a wristband, a location passport, and entry into a photo contest. Guests must be 21 or older and show valid ID at check-in at designated points near Big John’s Plaza or Dolphin Key Resort.  Cape Coral Breeze

  • Attorney General James Uthmeier held a press conference on May 2 at the Fort Myers Regional Operations Center at 9 a.m., where FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass also spoke.  NBC2
  • Lisa Abraham in North Fort Myers has waited nearly 8 years for Rebuild Florida to fix her hurricane-damaged home after her repair requests led to delays that forced her to leave a hotel and return to an empty house where she sleeps on a couch. Mary Lundberg of Golden Gate Estates said her rebuilt home shows major water, septic & electric problems while the state program remains under federal review.  ABC7
  • Fort Myers Beach councilmembers John King and Karen Woodson face a recall effort led by former councilmembers Ray Murphy and Bill Veach—this petition claims they broke ethics rules by accepting unreported gifts and having secret talks, and if enough voters sign, a special election could be set soon.  Beach Observer and Beach Bulletin
  • On Friday morning in downtown Fort Myers, protesters confronted each other outside a federal court hearing on a lawsuit Naples Pride filed against the city over rules that restrict drag performances and impose a steep security fee increase—Naples Pride said the measures violate its First Amendment rights and could affect its annual Pridefest set for June 7.  Fox 4
  • The city of Cape Coral received the final US Army Corps of Engineers permit on Thursday that clears the way to begin renovations at the Yacht Club Community Park, which will replace docks, a seawall, and a boat ramp after Hurricane Ian. The city will advertise bids for the marine work this month — an award is expected before City Council in early August and construction is scheduled to finish by March 20, 2030.  Cape Coral Breeze
