  • Lee County Domestic Animal Services expanded the Check the Chip program to include agencies across the county, with the North Fort Myers Fire District as the pilot site offering microchip scanning seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting May 1—this service helps return lost pets to their owners since microchips do not fall off like collars.  The News-Press

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A vehicle crashed into a new construction home on Northwest 42nd Lane in Cape Coral late Tuesday night—firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze to prevent it from spreading while the driver sustained only minor injuries.  WINK News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Lee County Sheriff's Office searched for Dan Etienne, a 16-year-old Black teen last seen leaving his home on 26th Street SW in Lehigh Acres who is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall and 130 pounds (with black hair and brown eyes) and may be in Fort Myers where he often visits parks and libraries; anyone with information is urged to call 239-477-1000 or 911.  ABC7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On April 25, the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools hosted its 38th Annual Golden Apple Teacher Recognition Banquet at the Caloosa Sound Convention Center and Amphitheater in downtown Fort Myers where six Golden Apple recipients, 24 finalists and 65 Teachers of Distinction were honored. The event selected winners through a thorough review process and was supported by local sponsors such as Chico’s FAS Inc. and Lee Health.  Cape Coral Breeze

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On May 7 — the fourth day of Hurricane Preparedness Week — NOAA urged Fort Myers residents to secure windows, move vehicles, and prepare emergency kits as a storm threatened before the 2025 hurricane season begins. The National Hurricane Center will start issuing daily tropical outlooks on May 15.  The News-Press
