- ➤ Florida State Parks are offering free day-use admission during Memorial Day weekend from May 23-25, excluding select locations & National Park Service sites will waive entrance fees for U.S. residents on Memorial Day, May 25. The News-Press

- ➤ RSW is expanding to meet growing travel needs as the Lee County Tourist Development Council updates the project. The expansion will double the airport's size; a new 14-gate Concourse E is set for 2027, with expanded dining and parking improvements scheduled for 2029. NBC2
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Homeowners in Tuckers Cove in Babcock Ranch saw wild hogs damage lawns and backyards starting around May 1 after moving in earlier this year. The HOA hired AG1 Enterprises, which removed 22 hogs to help protect properties + manage the invasive species. WINK News
- ➤ Fire officials warn that although the rainy season has begun, dry vegetation and summer lightning will keep wildfire risk high in Southwest Florida; officials say overlapping wildfire and hurricane threats remain a historic concern not seen in over 20 years. WINK News

- ➤ On May 18 from 8 to 10 a.m., the Housing Authority will open waitlists for six Project-Based Voucher Program properties across Lee County—providing one- to five-bedroom options for families and seniors. - ➤ Lee County Sheriff's Office held a memorial ceremony to honor 12 fallen deputies with bagpipes and roses. Family members and deputies gathered to listen as names were read aloud (the 12 roses symbolized the lost service). WINK News

- ➤ A coyote pup hit by a vehicle in Cape Coral last Friday is receiving intensive care at CROW on Sanibel Island - the roughly 7-week-old animal has a fractured front leg and suspected brain injury, with Facebook donations supporting treatment. Cape Coral Breeze
- ➤ Gulf Coast Humane Society will open a new vet clinic on Monday in Fort Myers — the facility features ultrasound and canine x-ray machines and extra space for spay and neuter services to reduce wait times for pet care. ABC7
