  • Brenda Bormann-Corbin, a missing woman from Cape Coral, was found dead near Bermont Road and Chiquita Drive in Charlotte County this past Friday — authorities are investigating the case as her daughter seeks answers.  WINK News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Access to Fort Myers improved on May 10 when the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad opened—its construction increased segregation as middle-class Black citizens and unskilled labor were forced into what became the Safety Hill area, now known as Dunbar. The community later built key institutions such as Friendship Baptist Church, Mt. Olive AME Church, and Dunbar High School to serve its residents.  The News-Press

  • A black bear was spotted roaming a Fort Myers shopping plaza around midnight Sunday, surprising residents who kept a safe distance—wildlife officials advised that securing trash may help prevent future conflicts.  WINK News

  • Make-A-Wish Southern Florida has granted its 15,000th wish to medically eligible children by offering life-changing experiences such as Disney trips and personalized gifts to help families during critical illnesses—referrals can be made online by family, healthcare professionals or the children themselves to reach more kids in need.  The News-Press

  • The ASUN baseball finals at Melching Field paused at 2:38 p.m. on Sunday when lightning struck with one out in the top of the seventh, prompting a delay of at least 30 minutes and fans to clear the ballpark.
