  • Lee County Parks & Recreation and the Visitor & Convention Bureau are launching Year Two of the Parks, Points & Perks Pass today in Fort Myers with current users automatically enrolled until May 31. The app now includes more parks, preserves, and dog-friendly spots (on-leash and off-leash) with updated prizes.  Beach Talk Radio
  • Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties completed a 36-home community near the border of North Fort Myers and Cape Coral yesterday. The neighborhood serves health care workers, social workers, teachers, young families and retirees, marking its sixth built in Lee County since 2018.  The News-Press
  • Gulf Coast Humane Society presented Big Bertha Tuesday; the 5-year-old, 72-pound mixed-breed who loves to chill is now available for adoption at 2010 Arcadia St.—Interested families can visit during shelter hours.  ABC7

  • Sweet Tomatoes in Fort Myers will hold its grand opening on June 1 after a soft opening that served over 1,000 guests daily. The restaurant at 14080 S. Tamiami Trail will offer a $12.99 lunch buffet and $13.99 dinner buffet with a 90-minute dining limit.  The News-Press

  • Same Time, Next Year is playing at Players Circle Theater on McGregor Boulevard and runs through June 7. Theater favorites Kimberly Suskind and AJ Mendini star as Doris and George (their onstage chemistry drives the decades-long story) in a production that captures a unique, ongoing relationship.  ABC7
  • Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre is hosting The Sounds of 1967 (running through June 20), a jukebox musical featuring classic hits like 'Carrie Ann' and 'Somebody to Love' that captures the vibrant spirit of the 1960s with a heartfelt story of a young musician chasing her dreams.  ABC7

  • Lee County School District voted to pay up to $10,000 in extra bonus money for teachers in critical and complementary subjects next school year at select schools—amounts will vary by each school’s risk level to help retain quality staff.  Cape Coral Breeze
  • Technical colleges in Southwest Florida have seen a 32% rise in enrollment as local schools offer fast, affordable pathways in healthcare, construction, aviation, and advanced manufacturing, with Cape Coral Technical College set to open a new 30,000 sqft training facility this summer.  WINK News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Volunteers and scientists will monitor local beaches this summer for sea turtle nests, especially those of loggerheads that lay hundreds of eggs. Officials urge residents to keep home lighting minimal to help disoriented hatchlings find water; the season runs until Oct. 31.  The News-Press
  • Officials remind residents that the Atlantic hurricane season starts less than a week away, with forecasts predicting a below-normal season while experts caution that tropical storms could still affect Florida.   • On Tuesday, a drone dropped thousands of sterile mosquitoes over Edison Ford Estates. The Lee County Mosquito Control District raised 800,000 mosquitoes in its lab and used X-ray to sterilize the males — a test designed to reduce the pesticide-resistant mosquito population.  NBC2

  • Uncle Rico’s pizza shop owner Enrico Aguila promotes a new Florida-style pizza by adapting his dough recipe for local heat & humidity.
