- ➤ Beach Theater owner Steve Boge received LPA approval to convert the venue at 6425 Estero Boulevard into two restaurants and a bar with games while he addresses resident concerns about parking and noise by using valet parking at the old Dolphin Inn lot. The plan will go before the Town Council in public hearings in August and September and, if approved, permitting will take 2-3 months with a 6-month build period leading to a planned 2026 season opening. - ➤ Residents at the Oasis and Harbor Grand apartments raised security concerns after a Sunday shooting that killed 25-year-old Alex Johnson—neighbors say that the removal of guards left them vulnerable while management has not answered questions. WINK News
- ➤ Fort Myers man Yanko Romero, accused of killing 25-year-old Alex Johnson on June 8 near downtown and of assaulting a fellow inmate on June 10, was denied bond by Judge Nicholas Thompson — authorities said he is also a person of interest in a 2023 Michigan slaying and his arraignment is set for July 7. - ➤ Julie Clark has released her new thriller, The Ghostwriter, where ghostwriter Olivia Dumont takes on a risky job to help her ailing father publish his memoir about a 1970s family tragedy (set in Ojai) and reveal deep family secrets. The book builds on Clark’s previous record-breaking novels and is expected to be a blockbuster summer thriller. Florida Weekly
- ➤ Fort Myers Theatre makes the show interactive by seating the audience close to the stage so they feel part of the performance; every seat is designed for an up-close view of the action. - ➤ Lee County faces an $18 million deficit and county leaders are discussing options—including raising sales tax, tolls, fees, and electric franchise fees—to fix the budget while considering spending cuts and project delays. No decision has been made and a final vote is expected in September. ABC7
- ➤ Lee County commissioners will hold a public hearing at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17 at the Old Lee County Courthouse on Main St. to consider an amendment that would ban smoking and vaping on county parks and beaches on Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel and Captiva—Commissioner Brian Hamman said the ordinance would impose fines on violators and take effect once approved and filed with the Florida Department of State. - ➤ Florida SouthWestern State College’s Dental Clinic is offering low-cost dental cleanings, exams and X-rays for children ages 3 to 18 throughout June at $30 per child with an add-on $5 for sealants, and adults can get cleanings for $50; services are provided by dental hygiene students under faculty supervision on the Lee Campus in Building A in Fort Myers—clinic hours are Tuesday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and appointments can be scheduled by calling 239-985-8334.
