- ➤ Authorities are seeking 38-year-old Marius Dumitru, a Lee County man accused of stealing checks from 24 churches by taking them from mailboxes and depositing them through an ATM into his account—he cut off his ankle monitor before trial and disappeared and will be held without bond when apprehended. - ➤ Cape Coral police said that on June 4 a deadly crash occurred on Burnt Store Road when one vehicle switched lanes and collided with an SUV that struck a guardrail and plunged into a canal, killing its driver while investigators noted that the surviving driver showed signs of impairment in a DUI investigation. - ➤ A Cape Coral Airbnb property was found in violation of the city's six-night rental rule during a code enforcement hearing but did not face fines because it was in compliance as of the day before—neighbors remain frustrated and support a proposal to raise the rental registration fee. - ➤ The Lee County Department of Transportation will begin the second phase of a roundabout on Buckingham and Gunnery roads on June 16, closing Buckingham Road between Gunnery and Sunset roads for detours and temporary signals—drivers should expect work during weekdays with some night and weekend hours, with the project set to finish in spring.
