- ➤ Cape Coral man Christopher Gregory Davis, 37, was sentenced to life in prison on June 26th for the second-degree murder of Barry Schmalbach, with additional consecutive terms for tampering with evidence and identity fraud—sentencing followed a four-day trial in Lee County. Cape Coral Breeze
- ➤ Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking the public for help finding a man who is a person of interest in an ongoing investigation by the Lee County Sheriff's Office; anyone with tips can call 800-780-TIPS (8477). ABC7
- ➤ Lee County deputies arrested Joseph Driggers, 44, and Kelsey Holtz, 45, on Thursday after a Truist Bank robbery near Page Field Commons that began shortly after 9 a.m. and prompted a response using drones and K-9 units, with their vehicle found on Cleveland Avenue—Driggers faces charges including robbery with a firearm and drug possession while Holtz is charged with robbery with a firearm. - ➤ The Bobby Holloway Jr. Memorial Foundation awarded $64,650 in scholarships to 30 students at Pine Island United Methodist Church on June 16, with former principal Steven Hook and board member Monica Oakley handing out the checks. - ➤ Environmental groups Friends of the Everglades and the Center for Biological Diversity filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court against the Department of Homeland Security and Miami-Dade County to stop plans for a detention center in the Everglades that would impact wetlands and endangered species. The suit challenges Gov. DeSantis’s plan to retrofit the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport for detention and claims the project lacked required environmental reviews — raising concerns over harm to the Everglades ecosystem.
