  • Goodwill SWFL is urging families with children with intellectual and developmental disabilities to check eligibility for Florida’s Agency for Persons with Disabilities Medicaid Waiver and to plan guardianship options as summer begins — the Disability Navigation team offers help with applications and future planning.  The News-Press

  • The Fort Myers Community Concert series will launch its 76th season in 2026 with five shows at B.B. Mann Hall featuring Orchestra Manhattan, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Three Italian Tenors on their first American tour, Barcelona Flamenco Ballet’s rendition of Bizet’s opera Carmen, and Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass. Subscriptions are on sale now and single tickets will be available in December—each show starts at 7:30 p.m.  The News-Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • In Fort Myers doctors are offering a new three-minute test called EsoGuard that uses a capsule to collect cell samples for early detection of Barrett’s esophagus—a condition that can lead to esophageal cancer. 72-year-old jeweler Patricio Ferreira was recently diagnosed and will be monitored yearly while physicians screen patients with risk factors like being over 50, tobacco use, obesity, or acid reflux.  WINK News
  • Medicare has helped older and disabled people since 1965 and experts advise Fort Myers seniors to stick with traditional Medicare with a Medigap plan to cover extra costs—this option gives more freedom than Medicare Advantage.   • Florida baseball players have been named to the 2025 All-Star rosters with FGCU alum Chris Sale, Rays players Jonathan Aranda and Brandon Lowe, and Marlins outfielder Kyle Stowers selected—through fan, player, and official votes.
