- ➤ In Fort Myers doctors are offering a new three-minute test called EsoGuard that uses a capsule to collect cell samples for early detection of Barrett’s esophagus—a condition that can lead to esophageal cancer. 72-year-old jeweler Patricio Ferreira was recently diagnosed and will be monitored yearly while physicians screen patients with risk factors like being over 50, tobacco use, obesity, or acid reflux.
