  • In Fort Myers, the seventh annual Adam Jobbers-Miller Blood Drive ended yesterday with about 300 people donating blood to honor the officer who was killed with his own gun seven years ago + Craig Vough from Arkansas sent his annual chalk art tribute while keeping close ties with the officer’s family and local law enforcement. This community event celebrated his legacy with heartfelt support and a strong show of local unity.  ABC7
  • Residents and visitors in Fort Myers will have free pool admission and parking at selected county facilities on Saturday and Sunday as part of Lee County's Park and Recreation Month celebration. The offer covers parks, beaches, boat ramps and pools maintained by the county (facilities run by other entities are not included).  ABC7

CRIME NEWS

  • On Thursday, the State Attorney’s Office announced that a multi-agency operation led by NETFORCE resulted in the arrest of 10 individuals—seven facing RICO charges—with officers seizing significant quantities of drugs, firearms, and nearly $180,000 from a controlled delivery in Cape Coral.  Cape Coral Breeze

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Baby sea turtles hatching on Fort Myers Beach face growing threats from human activities—such as building sandcastles and leaving holes unfilled—that damage their nests. Beachgoers are urged to turn off lights and fix disturbed sand to help ensure more hatchlings make it to the sea.  WINK News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Myers Beach received a letter from FEMA that spells out steps—fixing issues for 252 properties, removing temporary buildings, and updating permits—that must be completed by August 8 to restore the town’s 25% flood insurance discount. Town officials say they will work to meet these guidelines so the island can rejoin the insurance program by April next year.  WINK News

  • Pro wrestling icon Hulk Hogan, who began his career in Fort Myers in 1977, passed away and his close friend Jerry 'The King' Lawler said he felt terrible about the loss—reminding locals of Hogan's role in turning wrestling into family-friendly entertainment.
