Good morning, Fort Myers.

Firefighters extinguished a car fire along Interstate 75 near Mile Marker 118 just north of the ramp from Bonita Beach Road in Bonita Springs that closed two northbound lanes until 10:12 p.m. on July 26—no injuries were reported.

Sunseeker Resort paid to install a new traffic light on U.S. 41 in Charlotte County directly in front of the resort to boost public safety after local residents raised concerns.

The signal is expected to be operational in a couple of weeks — delays from storms and supply issues slowed the project.

Fort Myers Fire Department and the Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida warn drivers that hot summer days can make car interiors dangerously warm as temperatures may rise by 20° in ten minutes and nearly hit 150° when the outside heat is in the mid-90s.

Their fire truck display uses one clear message—ACT, which stands for Avoid heat stroke, Create reminders, and Take action—to urge everyone to check the back seat before locking their car.
