- ➤ Natalie Morales and her 5-year-old daughter Hailey have found a new home at St. Matthews House Women and Children Shelter in Fort Myers after Morales lost her job and could no longer afford rent. The shelter, which opened in December 2024, is at full capacity with more than 170 people waiting (a sign of the ongoing housing need in our community). WINK News

- ➤ SH Modern announced that it is holding the grand opening of its new gallery space in Fort Myers today, featuring museum-quality works by masters such as Picasso, Miró, and Dalí. The gallery (located at 9280 College Parkway, Suite 7) will be open Tuesday through Friday (from noon to 5 p.m. with appointments available) for art collectors, designers, and enthusiasts. - ➤ Alliance for the Arts is launching 'Curtain Call Carnage,' a 13-night haunted attraction running from Oct. 18 to Nov. 1 in Fort Myers—auditions for scare actors, dancers and hosts open on Friday, Aug. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. with extra sessions on Aug. 16 and callbacks on Aug. 17. Cape Coral Breeze

- ➤ Lee County Schools will add cameras on buses provided by Buspatrol to record and fine drivers who illegally pass stopped school buses—buses hit the road on August 11 and the district will run a 30-day public safety campaign before enforcement begins; last year, over 900 drivers broke the rule, prompting the new measure. - ➤ The FDLE held a groundbreaking ceremony on July 31 in Fort Myers for its new Regional Operations Center—covering 64,000 square feet with a forensic laboratory and flexible training center near Alico Road.
