- ➤ A 25-year-old Estero man died after his motorcycle collided with an SUV that failed to yield at an intersection on Three Oaks Parkway near San Carlos Boulevard in Fort Myers around 8:30 p.m. on July 31—troopers said the SUV, driven by a 24-year-old Fort Myers man, made a left turn in front of the motorcycle. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents and business owners in Boca Grande worry that a new parking rule will limit where visitors can park and hurt local tourism, as the Lee County Commission will vote on the proposal on Tuesday which limits residential street parking to island residents and enforces a two-hour limit for non-residents—violators face fines up to $300. Charlotte County officials have opposed the change, saying it will make parking difficult for fishing guides and visitors. ABC7
- ➤ Lee County commissioners will vote on August 5 for a $3.6 million repair project on the Matlacha drawbridge damaged by Hurricane Ian + the county will contribute $25,500 while work begins in September and lasts about six months. They will also consider funding for a Cape Coral Bridge replacement expected to start construction in early 2028. Fox 4
- ➤ The Florida Department of Law Enforcement broke ground Thursday for a new Fort Myers operations center on 8.28 acres at 16595 Oriole Road; the 64000 square foot facility will include offices, labs, a training center, and a warehouse (replacing the current Page Field airport location) and is expected to be finished in October when FDLE moves its regional operations center.
