- ➤ On Saturday afternoon, Fort Myers Fire Department responded to an electrical fire in a home on Lincoln Boulevard at 3 p.m. — firefighters controlled the flames before the fire spread as Florida Power and Light cut the power when an electrical fuse tripped. NBC2

- ➤ Fort Myers Beach is hosting a weekend celebration of mullets where visitors enjoy contests and raffles in honor of both the fish and the iconic hairstyle. Participants can pick up trail cards at 9 a.m., join nine mullet tossing spots on San Carlos Island just before the Matanzas Pass Bridge, and enter a Joe Dirt look-alike contest with prizes—designed to boost local business during a slower season. - ➤ The Cape Coral-Fort Myers area saw nonfarm jobs rise 0.7% over the year ending in June, which is lower than the 1.1% and 1.4% increases seen nationally and statewide. The mining, logging and construction sector added about 1,100 jobs while leisure and hospitality jobs fell by 5.3%—and nearby metro areas showed mixed results. WGCU

- ➤ The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation reported that they documented 868 loggerhead nests and 17 green turtle nests on Sanibel and Captiva this season, surpassing last year’s totals and recording the first green turtle nest hatched with 49 hatchlings. They added that 8,728 loggerhead hatchlings have emerged since June 26—residents can report sea turtle concerns to the SCCF hotline at 978-728-3663. ABC7
