- ➤ Registrations are open for the Lakes Park Fall Festival 'Scarecrows in the Park' in the Children's Garden from Oct. 10—31, where the community is invited to create unique scarecrows with awards for VIP and People’s Choice winners. Youth and school groups can receive a $50 supply stipend to help design entries, and registration ends on Sept. 25. WINK News

- ➤ Fort Myers Police said a child was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of McGregor Blvd and Peck Ave on Wednesday at 8:45 a.m.-the young victim sustained a non-life threatening leg injury and was taken to a local hospital while officers remained on scene. WINK News

- ➤ A Lehigh Acres man was arrested after he allegedly pulled a gun during a road rage incident along I-75 near Corkscrew Road in Estero on Monday—Florida Highway Patrol said the incident led to a felony traffic stop and he now faces multiple felony charges. ABC7
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation commissioners voted unanimously on August 13 to approve a black bear hunt in Lee and Collier counties set for December 6 to December 27 that will target 55 bears—marking the first hunt of its kind since 2015. The News-Press
- ➤ Taylor Stanberry won $10,000 at the 2025 Florida Python Challenge after she removed 60 Burmese pythons from the Everglades during the 10-day event held from July 10—20; she was recognized at a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission meeting on August 13 in Havana—934 hunters participated and a total of 294 pythons were removed to protect the local ecosystem. The competition aims to boost public awareness of the invasive threat and awarded $25,000 in prizes across three categories. The News-Press
