- ➤ A fire tore through a home on Upper Captiva around 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, reducing the house to rubble, injuring two people who were flown to a Sarasota burn center, and killing two dogs—a Dachshund and a Labrador Retriever—as officials investigate the accidental cause. WINK News

- ➤ Lee County Domestic Animal Services euthanized 107 of the 125 cats rescued from a home on Ribbon Court in Olga last week after owners surrendered them because they could not care for the animals—18 cats are now recovering and will soon be available for adoption while two misdemeanor animal cruelty citations were issued on Aug. 12.
