GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Fort Myers Beach voted to extend temporary trailer permits until June 1 for residents and businesses who prove hardship from delays with insurance, contractors, or finding new spaces. • Since Wednesday, RSW closed the ground level of Crosswalk Number Five between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.—affecting access to the rental car facility, long-term parking shuttles and taxis—and officials say the closure will last until next Friday, Aug. 29. Travelers are being directed to detour to the parking garage and ground transportation routes.  WINK News
  • Cape Coral is expected to repair three bridges damaged by Hurricane Ian — the ones on Sands Boulevard over Eternity Canal and Surfside Boulevard over Maxine Canal. The city is working with a consultant to complete the design and safety checks, and the council will review the plan at 4 p.m. Wednesday.  ABC7
  • FDOT said today during a meeting with Town Councilman John King and Town Manager Will McKannay that there are no plans to change the lane setup on the Matanzas Pass Bridge—citing cost concerns and risks of extra fender benders.
