  • HM Restaurant Group has opened the Bayside event space at the former Bonita Bill’s Waterfront Cafe on Fort Myers Beach and is on track to launch the new Bonita Fish Company restaurant in October with a new general manager and updated kitchen facilities. CRIME NEWS

  • Two Texas men were arrested Thursday in North Fort Myers after a gray BMW X2 was clocked at 118 mph in a 70 mph zone on I-75 at mile marker 146—34-year-old Zacharia Schley faces dangerous excessive speeding charges while his passenger Stephen Garay, who had outstanding felony warrants, was also taken into custody under the new law.  ABC7
  • A Fort Myers police officer chased a pickup truck that illegally passed a stopped school bus with flashing lights near Westwood Apartments on Metro Parkway Thursday morning—Lee County will install 900 cameras on bus stop signs by this fall to deter dangerous driving.  ABC7

  • Today, the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau hosted the 25th Annual Elaine McLaughlin Outstanding Hospitality Service Awards at the Caloosa Sound Convention Center in downtown Fort Myers, honoring top tourism professionals selected among 712 nominees (from 1,320 submissions) across seven categories.   • Hurricane Erin is moving away from the United States while meteorologists watch two areas in the Atlantic that might become named storms this weekend—one may form a depression as early as tomorrow evening and the other could break up before reaching the Caribbean.  NBC2

  • South Fort Myers residents with Parkinson’s disease are fighting back with the Rock Steady Boxing program that builds strength and coordination—trainer Maggie Green said each class is tailored to different stages of the disease.
