  • Sizzle Dining will run from Sept. 3 to Sept. 30 with 127 restaurants in Lee and Collier counties offering fixed-price meals where each purchase donates $1 to Blessings in a Backpack to help feed local children.   • Frontier Airlines will launch 20 new routes starting in November from airports including Fort Lauderdale—Spirit’s hub—offering fares as low as $29 and running through February while Spirit faces financial struggles. The carrier aims to capture more market share and give Fort Myers travelers extra affordable flight options.  The News-Press

  • On Thursday afternoon in Fort Myers, police said a hit-and-run nearly caused a car to crash into a home at the corner of Lafayette & Pauldo Streets, leaving one person injured and two people detained.  ABC7

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fort Myers Beach renourishment project is complete after several delays from hurricanes and equipment issues; the $22 million effort added nearly every inch of the 7-mile island with 950,000 cubic yards of new sand to protect homes and widen the beach for the 2025-2026 season—dune vegetation will be planted next to help keep the sand in place.  Beach Talk Radio

  • The Town of Fort Myers Beach has opened its new town hall at 6231 Estero Boulevard to employees while planning a grand opening on Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.—the ceremony will feature a ribbon cutting, refreshments, and guided tours as the town temporarily handles services at Bay Oaks during final work on the building.  Beach Observer and Beach Bulletin
  • Fort Myers Beach released new renderings for its pier replacement project on Wednesday night—part of Lee County's ongoing recovery after Hurricane Ian. The plans call for a pier that will extend to 1,000 feet in length and 12 feet in width, making it longer and wider than before.  ABC7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, health officials in Fort Myers warn that a rise in Vibrio vulnificus infections in warm coastal waters has reached 23 cases statewide, including one in Lee and one in Collier—resulting in five deaths this year. The bacteria spreads through open wounds and experts advise caution during hurricane season.  NBC2

  • The high school swimming season in southwest Florida has begun and 30 top swimmers from local schools have been named to watch for 2025 because of their strong performances at district, regional and state meets. Local athletes from Fort Myers, Naples and surrounding areas—who have each earned medals—will compete in multiple events as the season unfolds.  The News-Press
