  • American Legion Riders Chapter 90 will hold its third annual Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day event on Sept. 13 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Post 90 in Cape Coral—raising funds for Project: VetRelief to aid veterans with emergency needs. The event will feature Irish dishes including corned beef and cabbage sandwiches and shepherd’s pie, along with live music by Buddy Smith and Kellyn Celtic Dancers, door prizes, 50/50 raffles and drink specials.  Cape Coral Breeze
  • Margaritaville Beach Resort will host its second annual Day of Service on Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of Labor Day Weekend and Jimmy Buffett Day celebrations; the event will feature a Carnival of Fun with games, activities and drink specials whose proceeds benefit My Autism Connection.  WINK News

  • Dave's Hot Chicken, a fast-casual restaurant known for its Nashville-style hot chicken, will open late this year at 7925 Dani Drive, Unit 150 in Fort Myers and will serve chicken tenders, sliders & sides like mac and cheese to meet local demand.  The News-Press
  • On Labor Day, Sept. 1, all Publix locations will be open while Costco warehouses will be closed and mail will not be delivered—other government offices will also shut for the holiday. Residents should check with local retailers for any changes in holiday hours.  The News-Press

  • A man was arrested for stealing a shuttle bus and crashing into a passenger-filled bus at Southwest Florida International Airport at 10:14 a.m.—Melvin Bogus admitted his guilt and said he acted because he thought people were after him while witnesses confirmed no one was injured.  NBC2

  • Fort Myers Brewing Co. started its Summer-Ween event on Friday and continues today with live music from Rock Republic and Back Country Boys, food trucks, and costume contests for both kids and adults. The event also features a watermelon carving contest with prizes offered to winners—a fun way to mark the end of summer and the start of fall.  ABC7

  • On August 29, the Fort Myers Green Wave won a non-district football game against The Lehigh Lightning 33-27 in overtime—Fred Jackson’s key touchdown and other plays helped seal the victory.  The News-Press
