  • Local organizers announced that the annual New Years Eve 5K Run on the beach will once again be held at DiamondHead Beach Resort—benefiting the Fort Myers Beach Woman’s Club as registration opens now. CRIME NEWS

  • Fort Myers Police said a road rage incident on Winkler Avenue Monday escalated from a traffic accident into aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after a black SUV hit a Nissan—prompting an investigation as one driver now wants to press charges while no arrests have been made.  ABC7
  • A suspicious package was reported near University Village close to FGCU at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday—law enforcement, including police and the sheriff’s bomb squad, secured the area and advised students to steer clear while the investigation continued.  WINK News

  • Florida citrus growers will use 208,183 acres for the 2025-2026 season—a 24% drop from last year—as they struggle with citrus greening, hurricanes and development pressure. A Fort Myers-based major grower ended its major citrus harvest last year and has shifted focus to long-term land development.  WGCU

  • An intruder broke into the Fort Myers pre-school IMPACT earlier this week and caused significant damage, including a smashed front door, replaced side door, and stolen laptops and $800 in cash—community efforts quickly repaired the building and prepared it for the students' return on Thursday morning.  WINK News

  • A winning Powerball ticket for $1 million sold at the Publix on Gladiolus Drive in Fort Myers made a local buyer a millionaire on Wednesday night—while the larger jackpot remains unclaimed at $1.7 billion with the next drawing on Saturday.  ABC7

  • Next Thursday morning, Cape Coral will hold a 9/11 remembrance ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on the lawn in front of City Council Chambers where first responders + community leaders and local residents will gather to honor nearly 3,000 victims with a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. and the placement of 2,977 American flags bearing their names.  Cape Coral Breeze
