Good morning, Fort Myers. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 6th of September.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • After years of delays from the pandemic and Hurricane Ian, FastTrax opened Florida’s largest indoor go-kart track near the airport on Treeline Avenue—featuring a nearly 2,000-foot, three-story track, over 50 video games, and duck pin bowling—and is expecting thousands of visitors this weekend while children 9 and up can race on junior carts.  ABC7

CRIME NEWS

  • A Fort Myers man was arrested on Tuesday after a witness recorded him hitting his dog and slamming it against a wall at a downtown apartment complex on McGregor Boulevard—police and animal control are investigating the case.  NBC2
  • Authorities are seeking Benjamin Steiner, 44, who crashed his car near State Road 82 and the Forum and then ran toward a gas station after failing a field sobriety test and skipping his August court appearance on drug and DUI charges—he has prior convictions in Lee County and will be held without bond when recaptured.  ABC7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lee County voters will decide in a 2026 referendum if they will adopt a voting system that elects commissioners by district after the governor signed legislation in June.
