  • The Cape Coral Animal Shelter and Veterinary Clinic is asking people to donate bath towels so its puppies can stay warm—donations can be dropped off daily at the shelter’s donation door at 325 SW Second Ave. in Cape Coral.  ABC7

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Emergency repairs on the Wilson Pigott Bridge in North Fort Myers caused hours-long delays on State Road 31 on Monday as drivers were diverted and faced a car crash that added extra delay — FDOT has not set a reopening time yet.  ABC7
  • A woman rescued 11-year-old Mia Garcia at Lakes Park in south Fort Myers when Mia slipped into the lake collecting shells just after 10 a.m. on Saturday; Mia, who has autism, struggled in the slimy water until the rescuer reached her.  ABC7

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Florida's biggest indoor go-kart track FastTrax Entertainment opened on Sept. 5 in south Fort Myers, offering three levels of electric go-kart racing, duckpin bowling, an arcade, and an Italian restaurant at a 63,000-square-foot venue built after Hurricane Ian damaged its old location (it plans pro races and league nights and uses computerized safety controls).  The News-Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Two vehicles in Fort Myers were seen fighting in traffic — one nearly making a dangerous move — and police are investigating the video while urging drivers to call 911 if they see aggressive driving.  ABC7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The new sales tax holiday on hunting, fishing and camping gear began Monday, Sept. 8 and covers items including guns and ammunition as well as camping supplies at Bass Pro Shops in Fort Myers—customers save money by buying gear tax-free—while the promotion will run until Dec. 31. The holiday was passed in June to benefit local outdoor enthusiasts.  ABC7

  • Cape Coral will place almost 3,000 American flags for a 9/11 remembrance ceremony as it partners with its fire and police departments to honor those lost in the attacks—bringing the community together in solemn tribute.  NBC2

SPORTS NEWS

  • Estero High alumnus Matt Prater scored the game-winning field goal for the Bills in a 41-40 win over the Ravens last Sunday. The Bills rallied by scoring 16 unanswered points with under four minutes left—coming back from a 15-point deficit to clinch the victory.  NBC2
