COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lee County Domestic Animal Services will host the Pawsitive Futures event—focused on pet rescue, fostering and volunteering—at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at 5600 Banner Drive in Fort Myers. Director Pablo Adorno said the event will connect local animal lovers with rescue partners to support pets in need.  Beach Talk Radio
  • Tomorrow, Kimmie’s Recovery Zone will host Party in the Park at Collaboratory from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.—featuring a Circle of Love remembrance at 9 a.m. and speeches by Mayor Kevin B. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • City officials added a four way stop at Cape Coral Parkway and Sands Boulevard and installed an extra Dead End sign while two new flashing warning signs will soon be in place—this move follows repeated crashes and incidents of impaired driving that have damaged neighborhood homes.  ABC7

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Fort Myers Beach Art Association is hosting 'Celebration' in a new gallery at Cypress Square to mark its 75th anniversary—an exhibition running from October 27 through December 5 that features works by both long-standing and emerging artists rebuilt after Hurricane Ian. The association will hold its grand opening on November 1 from 3—7 p.m.—offering live acoustic music by Key West X-Press, refreshments, and door prizes.  Beach Talk Radio
  • The Margaritaville Beach Resort on Fort Myers Beach will host Parrot Phest 2025 from Oct. 3 to Oct. 5 with live music, brunches and contests designed to raise funds for Alzheimer’s research. Admission is free—participants may also win a three-night resort stay while enjoying family-friendly activities at the event.  ABC7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lee County School Board member Armor Persons is proposing a resolution that would let parents decide on student vaccines instead of following state mandates—he plans to bring the measure before the board next month so legislators can revise Florida's school vaccine rules.  NBC2
  • Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Bonita Springs Thursday evening to hold a vigil for Charlie Kirk while safety measures, including a police helicopter and snipers on nearby rooftops, ensured the event's security—the Lee County School District began investigating teachers who posted on social media celebrating his death and confirmed that no one has been fired. The investigation may take weeks as officials work to dispel rumors and enforce professional conduct.  ABC7

  • Calusa Waterkeeper will host its quarterly State of Our Water meeting on Saturday, October 11 at 9:30 a.m. at the historic Iona House at Calusa Nature Center with guest speaker Michele Arquette-Palermo from the Conservancy of Southwest Florida and Joseph Cavanaugh explaining how climate change will increase stormwater runoff—linking water health with local economic prosperity.  Beach Talk Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Fort Myers Beach Town Council cut the proposed 26% tax increase to a tentative 16% millage rate that will bring in an extra $719,000 over 2025 as they work to close a $1.19 million budget gap for the fiscal year starting October 1. The council approved cuts that may reduce local events and services—final decisions will be made at a public hearing on September 24 at 5:00 p.m.  Beach Talk Radio
  • The Town of Fort Myers Beach did not set the candidate qualifying dates for the recall of John King and Karen Woodson, yet the recall election will still take place on November 4—Lee County Elections said town officials will work to ensure the legal process continues.  Beach Talk Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Cape Coral Hospital will launch a new obstetrics and gynecology residency program next summer through Lee Health in partnership with Florida State University College of Medicine — the program will welcome six new residents each year and the first group will begin training in summer 2026.  Cape Coral Breeze

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Attorney Richard DeBoest of Goede, DeBoest & Cross advises Florida community associations that fining committees must be independent—members should not also serve as investigators—and board members must review governing documents for any secret ballot election requirements. He explained that condominium associations can only set aside contingency funds for hurricane repairs since they cannot create a statutory reserve.  The News-Press
