- ➤ Fort Myers Beach reporter Charlie Whitehead said Hurricane Ian changed his life when his family home was destroyed during the storm and he helped rescue a trapped neighbor—he cried while sorting through memories of the loss. The News-Press
- ➤ Capt. Daniel Andrews said today that a thick, black muck is harming the Caloosahatchee River & other waterways by blocking sunlight and reducing oxygen, which kills seagrass and fish habitats. - ➤ FEMA has proposed a new flood map for the Mullock Creek Basin that covers San Carlos Park and a part of the Village of Estero, and Lee County sent notices to about 2,000 residents to review the change. Homeowners near Alico and Corkscrew roads have until Sept. 30 to file appeals—if they do not, they may need to purchase flood insurance. WGCU
- ➤ Fort Myers police say a new radar speed sign on Colonial Boulevard near the I-75 exit flashes when drivers go over the 35 mph limit to reduce crashes in the busy area. Officer Ryan Hernandez-Beiner explained that the sign is meant for education rather than issuing tickets — a method that has already improved traffic flow. ABC7

- ➤ On Sept. 20, local groups held the annual Clips for Cancer event at Bell Tower Shops to show unity against childhood cancer and raised $130,000 so far to help children at Golisano Children’s Hospital. - ➤ The Florida Department of Health in Lee County lifted a water quality advisory at Bowditch Point Park—located on Fort Myers Beach—after tests showed that enterococcus levels had dropped to safe levels.
