  • Registration is open for the 33rd Industry Appreciation Awards luncheon set for Friday, Oct. 24 at the Caloosa Sound Convention Center in Fort Myers; 22 companies are finalists in seven categories.   • The Island Hopper Songwriter Fest returned to Fort Myers Beach on Friday, boosting community morale after Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Ian with performances by BMI singer-songwriters across four locations. The 11th annual festival continues today at 1 p.m.—bringing renewed energy and live music—ensuring a step toward normalcy for local businesses and residents.  WINK News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Gulf Coast Storm Team is tracking Potential Tropical Cyclone 9, located 155 miles northwest of Cuba, which is expected to bring only fringe rain on Sunday and quieter weather Monday. Hurricane Humberto has strengthened to 145 mph and is expected to reach Category 5 by Sunday — though it poses no threat to our local area.  ABC7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Florida State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo announced that the state will remove the vaccine mandate for schoolchildren by the end of 2025 so kids do not need shots for diseases like chicken pox and hepatitis B. Some health experts worry the change may lead to more illness and are studying its effects—raising concerns about public safety.  WGCU

  • Southwest Florida offers many ways to see a sunset with spots like Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel Causeway and Captiva Island—each with its own parking fees and fun activities for visitors. REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In August, Lee County’s median home list price dropped to $405,000—a 2.6% decrease from July and 8% lower than last August. Home listings stayed on the market for a median 106 days while the price per square foot fell 6.4% to $247, according to Realtor.com data for single-family homes, condos, and townhomes.  The News-Press

  • Cypress Lake defeated Estero in a district football game on September 26 with a 25-23 win—quarterback Jaydon Henderson led a late drive that clinched the victory.  The News-Press
  • FC Naples clinched a playoff berth with a 4-0 win over AV Alta FC Saturday night at Paradise Coast Sports Complex as Jayden Onen, Kevin O-Connor, Julian Cisneros and Ian Cerro scored the goals. Head coach Mark Poland said the team will work hard in remaining matches to secure a top-four finish and a chance to host a postseason game in Southwest Florida.  NBC2
