- ➤ A 'Suddenly in Command' seminar will be held on Oct. 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Community Outreach Center at Miromar Outlets in Estero—attendees will learn to handle emergencies when the boat captain becomes incapacitated and seating is limited. Beach Talk Radio
- ➤ A popular Pine Island bike path has become dangerous because overgrown vegetation and damaged sidewalks force pedestrians and cyclists onto the road — residents along Stringfellow Road say missing crosswalks and uneven pavement create safety risks for commuters and tourists. Lee County will be urged to schedule more frequent upkeep to help prevent injuries during high season. WINK News

- ➤ Green Cup Cafe will reopen in downtown Fort Myers at 2400 First Street in early October with a larger space and a new menu after it closed three years ago due to Hurricane Ian — owner Robert Podgorski rebuilt the cafe from scratch. Fox 4

- ➤ Southwest Florida high schoolers can soon enter the Ding Darling—Theodore Cross Photography Contest, which opens in October for students in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Glades, and Hendry counties to submit up to two digital photos of nature for a chance at a $1,000 cash prize and other awards. The contest honors Theodore Cross and requires each entry to have a 100-word note explaining the moment captured, with winners to be announced after the Jan. 15 deadline. The News-Press
- ➤ Margaritaville Resort will host ParrotPhest 2025 Friday through Sunday on Fort Myers Beach where Trop Rock music and Margaritaville-themed activities will take place. - ➤ Local theaters set a busy schedule this week as six new shows open—such as an Agatha Christie mystery, a chilling thriller, and a romantic musical—while two productions, including Nunsense and The Wedding Singer, close on Oct 5. - ➤ On September 29th, United Way provided over $157,000 in classroom supplies to more than 1,300 Lee County teachers through its Gifts in Kind program—reducing the need for educators to pay out of pocket for basic materials. WGCU

- ➤ Fort Myers Beach is recovering after Hurricane Ian left the island in ruins and today a $60 million project is restoring the shoreline with new dunes—marked by yellow stakes—to help protect against future storms. - ➤ During inspections from Sept. 22 to Sept. 28, 2025, seven Lee County restaurants earned perfect health scores while 16 establishments failed and required follow-up checks to fix issues with food storage and sanitization—officials say the results are available for public review. The News-Press
- ➤ After a fall during college led to a rare brain tumor diagnosis and treatment at Moffitt Cancer Center, Andrea Nieves—now 23 and studying at Florida Gulf Coast University—continues her fight with determination.
