  • The Whale, a popular Fort Myers Beach bar, closed after Hurricane Ian and will fully reopen on Nov. 14 with a revamped design that features dark wood ceilings as a nod to its 1940s roots—owner Dawn Miller said the restaurant is also hiring for soft openings leading up to the big day.  WINK News
  • At the Fort Myers gun show, customers have flocked for tax-free purchases as Florida’s Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday offers savings on firearms, ammunition and outdoor gear until December 31. General Manager Robert Geisler said that the tax break and new open carry law have boosted sales and shifted the show’s demographic—more black women and other buyers are joining the crowd.  Fox 4

  • Shawn and Dave VanBuren and their two daughters were left homeless after an electrical fire broke out Sunday at their North Golf Circle home in North Fort Myers—Dave VanBuren, a retired firefighter, said he used buckets from their pool until firefighters arrived.  ABC7

  • The Fort Myers Beach Art Association opened its Plein Air Art Exhibit on Sept. 25 at its new gallery on McGregor Blvd in Fort Myers and it will run until Oct. 24, showcasing local art that captures scenic views. The exhibit is open Thursday through Saturday from 12 to 6 p.m.—the group relocated after Hurricane Ian damaged its old gallery—and a 75th-anniversary celebration exhibit will begin on Oct. 27.  Florida Weekly

  • Fort Myers shoppers can take advantage of early holiday sales events as Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days run on October 7 and 8 while Walmart, Target and Wayfair offer special discounts.   • The Gulf Coast Storm team is tracking Invest 95L, a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic with a 70% chance to develop into a tropical depression in the next seven days and a 50% chance to become Tropical Storm Jerry in the next 48 hours—models show it will turn north near the eastern Caribbean and avoid impacting Fort Myers.  ABC7
